You welcome to another section of your piano lesson in Softkeys Academy. Today, we will look at the names of all the keys in the piano keyboard, starting from the white to the black keys.

If you take a look at the piano Keyboard according to our previous lesson on piano layout, you will discover that the piano Keyboard is made up of series of white and black keys which runs through the entire piano. Beginners find it difficult to identify these keys by their names and if you're one of these people, I want to welcome you to this lesson today because at the end of this lesson you will be able to know the names of all the keys in the piano keyboard.

In piano, the white notes are known as natural notes because they are the parent owners of the names given to them. The black keys are referred to as sharps and flats because they derived their names from the white notes (i.e, They take their names according to the white notes they're positioned before and after it).

Without wasting time, let's start with the names of the white piano keys.

     NAMES OF THE WHITE NOTES/KEYS

In this section of the lesson, we will answer questions like,

what are the white keys on a piano called? If you have asking this particular question or you have always wanted to know the names of these notes, Your question answered over here.

The piano white keys are named after seven letters of the alphabet. They are A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. However, the musical alphabet starts with the letter C, not A and it continues that way all through the piano keyboard, according to how many octaves the piano keyboard has. This is so because C is the most basic note in music.

i.e C D E F G A B C

So without wasting time, let's use the musical alphabet to name the white keys on the piano keyboard!

1. Let's Find C

Remember, the musical alphabet begins at note C, not A. So let's find C. Locate any group of two black keys. The white key that is to the left of the group of two black keys is C.

2. Let's Find D

Let's find D. The key that is located in the middle of the group of two black keys is key D.

3. Let's Find E

Let's find E. E is located to the right of the group of two black keys.

4. Let's Find F

Let's find F. F is located to the left of the group of three black keys.

5. Let's Find G

Let's find G. G is located between the first and second black keys of the group of three black keys.

6. Let's Find A

After G, remember that there is no H. Once you get to G, the next white key is A. Let's find A. The key located between the second and third black keys of the group of three keys is called key A.

7. Let's Find B

B is located at the right hand side of the group of three black keys.

          NAMES OF PIANO BLACK KEYS

If you have been asking "what are the black keys on a piano called" just chillax because you're about to discover what each of the piano keyboard's black keys is called. Two names are given to each black key. The white keys that surround them are what gives them their names.

1. Identifing The Group Of Two Piano Black Keys.

Examine the pairs of two piano black keys. Let's examine the black key on the left. It is encircled by C and D, as you can see. It is known as C Sharp (written C#), because it is to the right of the letter C. Because it is to the left of D, it is frequently referred to as D Flat (written Db).

Look at the pairs of two piano black keys once more. Let's look at the key in black key on the right. Take note of how D and E surround it. It is known as D Sharp (written D#), because it is to the right of D. Because it is to the left of the letter E, it is also known as E flat (written as Eb).

3. Naming the Three Black Keys Groups

Let's take a look at the sets of three piano black keys. Let's examine the leftmost of the three black keys. Take note of the fact that F and G encircle it (i.e, It's surrounded by F and G) is the name of the key that is to the right of the letter F? You're correct if you said F sharp (F#)! It has a different name because it is to the left of G. It is what? You are correct once more if you said G flat (Gb)!

Look at the group of three piano black keys once more. Let's look at the central black key (the black key at the middle of the three). It is encircled by G and A, as you can see. What is the name of the thing to the right of G? You are correct if you said G#! It has a different name because it is to the left of A. It is what? If you answered "Ab," you are once again correct! Well done!

One more time, look at the sets of three black keys. Let's examine the black key that is located to the right of the three of black keys. A and B encircle it, as you can see. Then, what are its two names? You are accurate if you say A sharp (A#) and B flat (Bb). Because it lies to the right of A and to the left of B, respectively, this black key is referred to as A sharp (A#) and B flat (Bb).
